Education

I have a bachelor's degree from BYU, having majored in Computer Engineering

I moved around more than most as a kid – for a while my dad worked for the US Government. We lived in Orem, UT; Dale City, VA; Tingewick, England; Orem (again), and finally we moved to American Fork, UT when I was a teen. I attended AFHS, but also attended Timpanogos High to take a class not offered at my high school, and I had friends from earlier in life who went there.

In Jr. High and High School, I associated with the “smart kids” during school simply because the smart kids were in the same classes as me. I hung out with my neighborhood friends after school, and I don’t recall having any classes in high school with my neighborhood friends. I went to football games, etc. with my neighborhood friends. I despised English class, although I got A’s. I participated in the state math contest, the district academic decathlon, the stock market game, and other similar activities. I also joined the high school cross country team (although you’d never guess that by looking at me now), because my crush was on the girls’ cross country team. She didn’t like me, but I ended up being a co-captain of the team my senior year. I took a whole bunch of AP classes in High School – too much. I had so much AP credit that I couldn’t use it all.

In college, I majored in Computer Engineering (Graduated from BYU, but spent time at USU and UVSC (now UVU)), and have an associate’s degree in Math. While I got a scholarship and got good grades all through college, I ended up working full time & being a student part time to get through college. Because of my AP credit from High School, I wasn’t in school forever. I graduated debt free, which felt good. During my college years I participated in church, but I didn’t have time for a lot of other activities. I enjoyed going to movies or comedy shows with my roommates for fun -- three of my roommates were involved with Divine Comedy (one performer, two behind-the-scenes).
